When I’m in charge of dinner, I want to do something I can whip up and will cook, hands-off, so I can play with my kid. Chickens were on sale last week, so I grabbed one and a few bags of frozen veggies. Continue reading

Cinnamon Buns
I woke up the other day and it was fall! We went from hot, hot summer to cold temps overnight. I was dying for cinnamon buns, but didn’t have yeast, plus I didn’t feel like making something too complicated. I Googled, and found this recipe! Continue reading
Pear Almond Cake
Hi. We love pears at my house, even though I can’t eat them unless they’re cooked. This past weekend I went to a family party and brought the original apple version of this cake (please ignore how terrible the photos are if you click on the link) and it was a hit. I wanted to make it again so Mike and Baby P could have some, but I wanted to update the cake a little. Continue reading
Bacon cheddar scones
When we were in Vinalhaven last month, was super excited to learn that the coffee shop on the island was 100% gluten free! We went most mornings to get muffins and scones and breakfast sandwiches on their home made biscuits. It was such an awesome thing, to be able to go and get gluten free breakfast every day if I felt like it. If you’re ever in Vinalhaven, definitely go to the (R)Cafe. I can’t wait to go back! Summer!
We had a good summer. Mike and I got engaged (!!!) and took Baby P on vacation to Maine. Every year we go to Vinalhaven, a sweet little island in the middle of Maine. My dad runs the best restaurant in the world there, Salt. If you ever happen to be in Vinalhaven, go eat at Salt.

Lemon loaf cake!
Hi! Summer is finally starting to wind down. Finally. This was the hottest summer I can remember. This is a sweet, quick summery cake. First you make the cake, which is a light lemon loaf cake, and then you make a simple glaze and pour it over the hot cake. When the cake cools, the glaze hardens on the top of the cake and it’s such a perfect dessert. My mom made this when we were younger, and I like to think about Baby P growing up eating it too. Jam Bars!
Because it’s summer and I can’t stop using the oven, here is a delicious recipe you can make using jam. Or fresh fruit, since it’s summer and all. If you use fresh fruit, chop it up, toss in a few tablespoons of cornstarch and a few tablespoons of sugar, then spread over the crust like you would with jam. I used jam here, but added in a handful of cherries I had in the fridge that a certain kid refused to eat. I tossed them in cornstarch and sugar and almond extract and mixed them in with the jam. The best way to eat Tater Tots
I love tater tots! But it’s too hot to have the oven on most of the time lately. Plus Hunter loves slamming the oven door open and shut so it’s hard to bake anything when he’s in he kitchen. A while ago I tried to make tater tots in the waffle maker and damn! They’re awesome!
New Toy!
I got a new toy! We went to a wedding recently and they had an instant camera for their photo booth option, and I was pleasantly surprised by how great it was. After the wedding I did some research, and settled on the Instax Mini 50S by Fujifilm.
I chose the 50S because it has a self timer, and I wanted to be able to use it to take family portraits. Continue reading
Yard Tea
It’s summer, and I love cold drinks. I’ve been making iced tea like nobody’s business! I’ve also been making tea from plants and herbs from my yard, with a revolving cast of characters depending on what’s growing/in bloom.
Today’s tea was made of raspberry leaf, yarrow, lemon balm, sage, bee balm, two types of mint. Continue reading
